Bible and Nisargadutta Maharaj on Disciple : Answer by Krishnan Kartha to Baiju's question

ബൈബിളിൽ നിന്നൊരു സംഭവം:
Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to
get eternal life?"
Jesus replied, "If you want to enter life, keep the commandments." "Which ones?" he inquired. Jesus replied, "You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother, love your neighbor as yourself."
"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." (Matthew 19: 16)
നിസർഗതാ മഹാരാജിന്റെ ഐ ആം ദാറ്റ് എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിൽ നിന്നൊരു സംഭവം:
Young man: I am an adopted child. My own father I do not know. My mother died when I was born. My foster father, to please my foster mother, who was childless, adopted me -- almost by accident. He is a simple man -- a truck owner and driver. My mother keeps the house. I am 24 years now. For the last two and a half years I am travelling, restless, seeking. I want to live a good life, a holy life. What am I to do?
Nisargadatta Maharaj: Go home, take charge of your father's business, look after your parents in their old age. Marry the girl who is waiting for you, be loyal, be simple, be humble. Hide your virtue, live silently. The five senses and the three qualities (gunas) are your eight steps in Yoga. And 'I am' is the Great Reminder (mahamantra). You can learn from them all you need to know. Be attentive, enquire ceaselessly. That is all. (I am That - Chapter 26)

വ്യത്യസ്തമായ ഈ രണ്ട് സംഭവങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ഒരു സാധകൻ എന്താണ് മനസിലാക്കേണ്ടത്?

Krishnan Kartha: To  Baiju NT,

. (The episodes are seemingly distinct; but essentially same. One is over confident and proud that he is following the commandments. So Jesus had no other option than to ask him to sacrifice his ego, by rejecting his "having" and become man of "being". So long as one is conscious about his 'having' he will be away from his 'being'. He is an altered person himself. This is the situation here. So Jesus gives him the difficult task for him. In the other case, the person is more receptive. Being receptive he can learn from his surroundings easily if he is focussed. He needs no other training. For him the ashtanga yoga ,the eightfold yoga ,is simply five senses and three qualities. despit his worldly involvement, he can seek the truth very easily. These examples directly and indirectly show that spirituality is not an escape from normal living. One who cannot live normally is a burden for the society.
Generally man tries to escape from all impositions of the society. In order to escape, he may resort to many devices, one among which is spirituality. When man is disciplined, there is no need of legislation. As Carl Marx dreamed 'the state will whither away", since there is no need for any impositions by any other authority; man will produce adequately, distribute adequately and consume adequately. But that remained a dream... An authority will emerge like the old wine in the new bottle... it happened wherever such an experiment was undertaken by a group of people. So in order to correct man's inherent laziness and resultant evasion of regulations, law emerges and authority to maintain law also emerges. Ten commandments were necessary for people. Those who could abide by them, could live with peace, there was no inner turmoil... When man evades the regulations of the society, he will be in inner turmoil. This turmoil cannot be cured with his money, positions or 'havings' . Thus he will resort to gurus and religious people. He may get solace for the time being. Eventually there would be another set of regulations waiting for him there at those sanctuaries.. He will slowly find some fault with his guru and escape from those laws and communities.. Mind is such a clever system,
I have heard that Gurdjief used to say that one who cannot obey his father cannot be accepted as a disciple. This is true. If you cannot tolerate the first authority figure in your life, you may fail to accept another authority. You will cheat yourself by pretending that you have surrendered to your guru but at the crucial moment you will defect. Baiju , you may please remember the St Mathew's sleep at the Gathsamene.

Viswa Prabha : If I may add, What George Gurdjief said was so very true, for it is the same reason, the first commandment is at its first place. Also this is the primordial command in Islam (that there is no other God than the One (Allah).
Faith is not just about protecting a(any) religion or ideology or the pupil. It is the foundation for all subsequent lessons.
