Hiroko Ueyama asked Krishnan Kartha on September 3, 2014
" It is said that Indians have 33 million Gods. What have you got to say about this? "
Krishnan Kartha : "The Vedas say that God is"sahasraseersha" ,sahasraaksha" and "sahasrapaad",meaning, God is with thousand heads, thousand eyes and thousand feet... What doyou understand from this statement? Thousand heads means two thousand eyes, no?So it is not an attribute in literal parlance. It means that God is manifest ineach and every being around us. God is living with you in the form of numerous people around you,,, kith kin, enemies ... supporters, followers, critics.. In India man had the choice to select the God found suitable for him, known asishtadevatha, The god you perceive is different from the one another person perceive.Practically each person imbibes his personal attributes about God and it is different from the other's. That is how 33 million Gods came into existence. Sometimes our Land might had 33 million population then. So each one had his own God. ......... This is simply because the God is without an attribute. The moment you try to frame the God, he becomes limited to your attributes. The 'purity' of God is not the purity what we think in our common life. The purity means originality, as it is originated, without additives, without a metallurgical flux , It is part of the chronology of origination of the cosmos... It stands between the "unity" and the"divinity". Unity comes into existence when the "awareness"and "experience" (yin and Yang/ Siva and Sakthi/Chith and Ananda)joins together and merges into One. This purity merges further into Divinity, the original nothingness. So having 33 million Gods, is a privilege, you can choose your own. You can choose the God with the attributes you lack. Fearful people resort to Goddess Kali, likewise... Thanks"
